About Kara Schmidt, RD, PA-C
Kara Schmidt is a board-certified Physician Assistant at Houston Specialty Clinic,
specializing in pediatric neurology and sleep medicine. With a unique background as a
Registered Dietitian (RD), Kara provides a holistic approach to care, integrating medical
treatment with nutritional expertise to support the overall well-being of her patients.
Kara’s medical journey began with a focus on specialized nutrition, giving her a deeper
understanding of how diet impacts neurological and developmental health.

Kara earned her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from Michigan State University and served as a clinical dietitian for the University of Michigan Health System in Pediatrics and OB/GYN.

She pioneered the role of the dietitian in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Pontiac General Hospital following training at Riley Hospital for Children.

For her work in community education and political advocacy, she was named the Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year.
Driven by a desire to positively impact patient lives through clinical medicine, Kara earned her Master of Science in Biomedical Science from the University of Toledo’s Physician Assistant program.
Before joining Houston Specialty Clinic, Kara gained extensive experience in general pediatrics, which now informs her specialized work in:

Kara lives a vibrant life outside the clinic with her husband, two children, and a full house of two dogs and two cats. She is an avid runner and swimmer who loves traveling and spending quality time playing games with her family.
